Looking for a fast mobo

Guys,

I've not built a computer in about five years due to life interfering :rolleyes: but I have to update soon but I have no idea where to start at the moment. My current computer is an 3.3Ghz I7 on a Gigabyte Ga-X79S UP5 - Wifi and even though I have 64Gig of 2400 Ram it takes about 90 seconds to boot and something like 10 minutes to close down.....compared to an older earlier I7 I have this is slow, but have been told this that is a problem with the UP5 Mobo's.

In my next computer I'm looking for a motherboard that boots quickly can handle an I9(?) processor and has ten inbuilt USB 3 connections (back panel) and if possible connections for more attached to the case.

Has anyone got any thoughts about such a thing???????

Thanks

Nothing you buy now will be significantly faster. Reinstall windows on an SSD and disable any hardware that you don't use in the bios.

I wouldn't bother upgrading motherboard, CPU or RAM if I were you. I'd look in to SSDs and PCIe USB ports. I'm sure there is some, but very few boards carry 10 USB 3.0 ports on the back.

Clearly another type of problem if it takes 10 mins to shut down.

Do you have any extra bits at boot such as RAID or extra NICs?

Could you tell us, what you have in your computer (full specification) and how much of your hard drive space is used?
And there isn't anything higher then i7 (unfortunately :D)

What do you mean by "there is" are you talking about Xeons?

i7 != i7

It's meaningless without the specific model. There are i7s that have quadruple the physical cores of other i7s, unless you specifically indicate which model number then it's a crapshoot.

There are also other platforms which are significantly more expensive such as multiple socket Xeon platforms and similar, but that's generally outside the scope of a consumer-grade build or usage requirement.

That being said, as stated, Haswell-E isn't worth the cost in upgrading from X79.
