Advice for new laptop

I am thinking about purchasing a laptop for my girlfriend for xmas, since her's died.

She needs a laptop to type papers, surf the internet, and use "blackboard" (its a thing for college that professors send homework and e-textbooks too along with videos, chats, etc.) She does not game at all fyi.

I'm looking at a few models with cyber monday coming up and want some advice.

I want to spend less than 300$ but want something with quality. I was looking at the HP Stream 11 or 13... but it has mixed reviews.

Any help / advice? Thanks!

So is that a good deal? Not sure about a pentium processor..

Pent processors have progressed quite far. It's still a dual core, but since she's only doing basic word processing and web surfing it shouldn't be an issue.

My Inspiron was near the top in 2012 when I bought it. It still works solid but I bought it to play some basic games and ultimately, do homework (LOL).

Dell does a good job with it's laptops and it'll be fine.. just my 2 cents.. :D

Woah! It is... My bad. (Was in a time crunch earlier)

Not bad considering it'll handle programs a bit better. I say for the money that's a fair laptop and better then those similarly priced POS chrome books or netbooks with the little atom/celeron processors (so cute ha).

I hope i didnt mess up! lol

Went with a different laptop, the Toshiba C55-B5362

It's an i3-4005U 3M Cache at 1.7 GHZ
same 500 GB HDD with 4 GB DDR3 RAM (1600)

The Toshiba also has an optical drive and free next day shipping from Staples. $300 out the door for cyber monday. So it was $30 more than the Dell but has an i3.

Better, worse, or same?? Should I cancel and go with the Dell? The i3 is a little slower and only duel core but its an i3...
