Which 280X?!?!

Clarification: I still need to buy a GPU.

I have the 270X in my sign. but Newegg sold out and I'm rethinking my options.

My dad said he'd give me some extra money to buy a "better" card. I've moved up to the 280X instead.

Which version of the 280X should I go with?

I've looked at these 3:

Sapphire Tri-X

MSI Twin Frozr

Asus DirectCU II

Thanks for the input john. Since there isn't much different about these 3 cards I went with the Sapphire. With stacking discount I've purchased it at $189.99 + $15 rebate for a total of $174.99 :)

Pays to sign up for visa checkout and then shop on newegg.

I know you've already made your decision. I've owned 3 Sapphire cards (well 4 sorta) and they've been great. 5770, 7850, and now my second 7970. The first 7970 was faulty and had to RMA it. I hear so many horror stories about their RMA but mine was smooth and had a replacement in a couple weeks, despite the fact I had no receipt and bought it used. You should be happy with a Sapphire. The Tri-X coolers are also quite good.

That's what I've heard by looking this card up. Pre-OC'd and that massive heatsink.

My ONLY worry is that a review pointed out that the Sapphire recommends 750w or more on the PSU.

Am I pushing it to have a 600w?

Yeah I saw that actually recently and that's incorrect. Way off. I have a 7970 (same card, different name) and it runs fine on my CX600. You'd probably be fine with a 550 watt or even a high quality 500 watt.

Edit: Interesting, Sapphire recommends a 750 watt PSU. That's utter bull. I wonder why it's so high. I know most manufacturers inflate that requirement to account for crappy PSU's, but sheesh. That's a bit much. http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/product_index.aspx?pid=2022&lid=1#

According to the page for my 7970 you only need a 500 watt unit. That's really weird. http://www.sapphiretech.com/presentation/product/?cid=1&gid=3&sgid=1157&pid=1481&psn=&lid=1&leg=0#

Good to know.

I was planning to O/C my processor and I had a heart attack when I saw that on the Sapphire's box.

Yeah crank that up to 11! My CPU pulls more power than yours and I have zero problems with my CX600. I see you have the same. You'll be fine.
