Having trouble with power supply and fans.

Hello, a couple days back I posted about buying a new graphics card, and successfully bought a new XFX Radeon R9 270X and a Consair CX500m power supply. After struggling all day with my lack of computers I believe I have most of the wires in the correct spaces. But I am having trouble with 2 of my fans. The power supply came with a peripheral 4-pin cord to plug into one of the power supply spots and then plug the fans into the 4-pin slots. But having this plugged into the power supply stops the computer from turning on, I'm guessing it's shorting the circuit? The smallest fan I have and the 2 fans on the graphics card will spin for a second, but the computer does not turn on. Is their something I should be doing different?

I cant understand what you are saying.

You need to put a six pin PCIe connector into that graphics cards, and case fans should plug into the motherboard

Sorry for my lack in computer knowledge but my motherboard does not have slots for the fans.

Hmm I've been looking over my motherboard and am having a hard time on locating where I plug in the fans. I have a msi 760GM-P23 (FX) motherboard.

According to your motherboard manual, you only have one system fan connector and it's right next to the CPU fan connector.

Also with regards to directly plugging one fan into the power supply, are you sure you didn't plug it in backwards?

The biggest fan next to the mother board is not connected to anything, the small fan on the motherboard is connected and works fine, and a smallish medium sized fan in the front of the computer is not connected to anything. When I connect the cables to a peripheral cable, and then plug it into the power supply it prevents the computer from starting, like it looses all of its power when you connect the fans. The computer runs fine when not connected.

Take pictures of what you're talking about because I'm not understanding it.

To all the helpers thank you, I went home after work and discovered what I was doing wrong. Problem fixed!
