New GPU won't work!!!

So being my first computer build without integrated graphics, I just got my 280X today.

Plugged it up, booted the system, nothing on my screen.

I am a complete idiot for not being able to figure this out and I'm completely stumped.

You got the right input set on the tv? Can you hook up a monitor to it via dvi to confirm the card is working?

No luck, John...

Could it be that I don't have a OS loaded yet?

Otherwise the card might be DOA right?

It will work without an OS loaded. Might be dead. Can you check card in another system or have a friend check it in theirs?

I can try to see if my neighbor can.. The box for the card says "750w PSU+" but the card doesn't need nearly that much.

I will try it soon.

Did you plug the cable in to the graphics card and not the onboard video? There was a guy here a while back that had a 7950 in his system that he wanted to replace because he could barely play games on low. Turned out he had been running on integrated video for several months.

Also, VCR, you need to learn to read. It says so in his signature AND the original post.

The 750 watt requirement is bull. I have the same card on the same PSU and it runs fine. The 7970 PSU requirement isn't even close to 750 watts and the chip is identical.

Holy crap! What beast of a card did you pick?!:eek:

an R9 280X that doesn't need that much...

John: the lights on the card are green indicating it works... I'm not sure of I'd need to switch anything but the card came with some PCI 8 pin to 4 pin fan like connectors, then I plugged those up to my PSU..

Anyways, I think it may be dead and my mom won't let me test anything until Friday (so much for trying to be efficient)..

Do not use the connectors that came with the card. Your power supply should have the correct amount of connectors.

Just making sure you saw my last post. Also don't use those Molex connectors, the PSU comes with the PCI-E connectors you need.

Yeah it's probably the power cables that are causing it to not work. It's not getting enough power.

Got the PSU cable for the 8pin PCIe and it still won't work. Fans spin, lights are on, one green light over by the CFX bridge but the CFX isn't on so that's not the issue..

It may be dead.

With it hooked up to the onboard. Boot, go into the bios and set PEG/PCIe ever how its worded on boot, save and exit. Shut down and hook it back up to the card and see if it will boot.

Edit. Never mind your 860 doesn't have onboard. Sure you got all the standoffs under the board in the right places. Got the CPU power connector plugged in?

I'm like 90% positive that's the issue.

Look in your manual and see which one is slot 1 and 3. Make sure to put it in those. If those don't work, try 2 and 4

Manual says 2/4... Ram is in those slots, JPWR2 cable was a little loose on the top end of my board so I just pushed it all the way in.. I'll check it out in the next 30 mins.

Update #1 NO LUCK! Won't work after the PSU power cables and making sure the RAM is in the right slots and Mobo power is hooked up properly. The card looks to be fine and performing but it won't send any signal... DOA until I can test it in my neighbors rig. -1 rep for Sapphire.

Update #2 I'll be back with my findings on Friday/Saturday. Disappointed I won't be able to game for the second weekend in a row..
