New hard drive

I am wanting to put a bigger hard drive in my Gateway MT6730 laptop. The current HD is 120GB and with 4 games installed it is almost full already. What is the maximum size of hard disk I can put into this machine?

There is no limit really (besides the 2TB+ limit). Any 2.5" SATA drive will work.

For future reference, hard drives don't have a size limit (besides the 2TB+ without a UEFI BIOS). It's only memory that has a limit to the amount that can be used by a machine.

I'd just use a cheap SSD, although you were complaining about 120 GB not being enough, so with your budget a cheap 500G mechanical would do.

Older builds like that get pretty snappy still with an SSD. My laptop is slightly older than that (Gateway MX6959) and still chugs along okay for most things after upgrading.

You've complained in the past that you don't like SSD's, so why bother? Also, Vista doesn't support TRIM.

I've taken out the HDD in the past. It's Sata.

Could I use an SSD???

If you can afford it, sure you could... but it's like throwing a top-of-the-line modern stereo in an '85 Civic.

Opening files is going to be quicker, but the rest of your laptop puts you in a textbook bottleneck for everything else.
