New CPU, Black Screen

This thread is, once again, on behalf of yet another friend with yet another problem.

So, today my friend got a new CPU for his PC but now after he's put it in, he gets a black screen that doesn't disappear. Now, the weird thing is that everything still loads up and he can type in the password and hear the login-sound but nothing shows up on the screen.

He's checked so that all cables are plugged in to the motherboard and even updated BIOS, as well as unplugging the power cord, holding the power button for a minute and then turning it back on without any progress.

We know that it's the new CPU that is the problem because the computer starts up just fine with the old one and yes, it's plugged in correctly and it's got thermal paste on it.

We have also checked so that the motherboard he's got is compatible with the CPU and it is.

Other than that, i can't see what might be the problem so if any of you know what it might be, any help is appreciated.
 
What cpu and what motherboard is being used? What bios version is installed? The board may need a bios update to actually support the cpu. With the old cpu working this is most likely the case here.

Like i said in my first post, the bios has already been updated and we have made sure that the CPU is compatible with the motherboard and everything else in the computer.
 
So you won't humor me with what motherboard and cpu he has? Maybe the cpu is bad or that there are different versions of a processor that may not be supported by the motherboard. You want us to help but you aren't providing the information requested.

John sorry to butt in but i had the same issue not with this same PC but with a Dell P4 Dem 4500,ordered a P4 CPU 3.06Ghz for my other PC Emachines T3958
that was running an Amd 2.93ghz then the famous PS Bestec just burned the CPU then i had this Amd 2.0ghz that i replaced with,now the P4 3.06 that worked great on Emachines ,i was curious as always am, if that 3.06Ghz Worked on the P4 Dell Dem 4500,so i decided to try the P4 3.06ghz CPU on it
but it did not boot or boot right,so i had to go back and swap again,lost alot of Heat sink past for sure.
My question do i have to do something in the Bios set up so it will recognize the P4 CPU?
 
There are different bus speeds of the P4, 400, 533, and 800. The 4500 will support the 400 and 533 bus speeds. It will not support anything with a 1mb cache. Look at the 3.06 and see what the specific specs are.

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500k
 
He took it to a repair shop today and it turned out that the CPU was actually defect so he'll be getting a new one next week.

But thank's for helping anyways :)
