Why does my ASUS laptop keep shutting down when powercord is unplugged?

Hello,

I want to start off by apologizing if this is not the right section of the forum to be asking this!

My ASUS R505C Series (Intel Core i5 - 3337U, 1.8GHz, Memory 8GB and HDD 750GB) would only start if the powercord was plugged into it. When the power cord is removed it completely shuts off. This only started happening recently (a little over a day ago). My computer has a removable battery. I tried removing it, cleaning it and leaving it out for a while but no good news. The problem is persisting. I've had this computer for about a year and half now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you require more information I will try my best to assist. P.S: I am running Windows 8.1

Thank you for help.

I think so as well but I was hoping it might be software related. Thank you voyagerfan99, I am glad I am not the only one thinking that! Can anyone comment on their experience possibly in a situation that is similar?

A situation like this has nothing to do with software. It's definitely a bad battery. I've been working on computers long enough to know this.

Bad battery or possibly motherboard... had an old ThinkPad with similar problems (wouldn't start unless plugged in etc) and was told by ThinkPad experts that it could also be a motherboard problem.

Other than the power did you experience any other problems? Like updating your software and etc?

It was an 8 year old machine when I got it so it had its fair share of issues but updating Windows etc was fine I think...
