I just got a 27" HP monitor from my dad that he doesn't use no more an I was wondering a good resolution to set it at I got a gtx 970 card.

Depends on what the resolution of your screen is. White a 970 there should be no problem putting it on max

the 970 will be fine for any game on ultra at 1080p 60fps. It is likely to be able to do 1440p with a solid 60fps aswell.

This is simply not true. Try the Wicther 2. It wont handle 1080p at ultra.

Other games it want get 60FPS at 1080p include Crysis 3, Watchdogs, Tombraider, Assassins Creed IV, Metro Last Light.. and others.

But as John said, the OP simply needs to set the graphics output to the native resolution and refresh rate of the monitor.

well yes there are the few games it wont be able to handle 1080p full anti-aliasing. crysis and metro are big demanding games but with a few adjustments to AA it should be fine on 1080p.
