Nexus 7 not charging properly

So I charge my Nexus 7 through my computers front USB 3 ports. It takes an obscenely long time to charge like 16 hours, even if it is a tablet. Also, when the computer is on, and I plug my Nexus in, it registers, and opens up the Nexus 7 file. But then the file disappear s and reappears every couple of seconds. Its really annoying, especially if I'm playing a game and the sound pops up in the background, as well as the tab switching to the Nexus one instead of my game.

Charging via a computer USB port will always be slower, as USB 2.0 is limited to 500mA on a computer, versus 2A+ using the dedicated charger.

When the Nexus 7 is connected, do you change it to charging mode? By default I believe it's setup to have the storage viewable by the PC.

I dont believe there is an option for charging mode, but Ill check it. Normally my computer is off while charging, is this affecting anything?

If you pull down on the notification bar on your tablet, it will say the mode it's in. If the computer is off I believe it will default to charging mode, and won't change. If the computer is on, usually they default to USB mode where you can browse the device

Use a rear USB port instead. Gigabyte boards leave some of the USB ports powered even when the PC is off so they can be used for charging.

I know that. I just think it would charge faster if he used a rear USB port instead of his front ports.

Which Nexus 7 is it, the 2013 version?

Keep in mind the battery has a ~4,000 mAh capacity. With something like 20% efficiency loss it'd take about 9.5 hours to charge on a 500 mA port (which is most USB on a PC).

Sometimes certain motherboards have a 'rapid charge' mode that can burst power usually to around ~1 amp. You could also alternatively use a 2.1A wall charger. This would cut your charge time into 1/2 and 1/4 of the figure above respectively.

Well, I use my computer ports because I have no outlets availible, even with a power strip. With a wall charger, it takes like 4 hours

You have no outlet at all in your house that you can charge your tablet?

Are you using the charger and cable that came with the tablet? If you are using a different brand, quite often they limit the power. You need to use the charger and cable that comes with the device to guarantee the fastest charge possible.
