Camera fries PCI USB 3.0 card

Wanted to post as a friendly warning, that contrary to mainstream opinion, it is possible to unintentionally destroy a pci usb card when plugging a camera directly into the usb port.

This was a Sony later model cybershot and the card was a Silverstone.
Perhaps there was a short in the camera, don't really know. Only that it did happen and it is rare.

Now I've gotten into the habit of pulling the camera memory and loading pics each time through a card reader just to be safe.

At least it was in my older box and not happening to the new motherboard, if in fact, it would have happened to the new one having direct usb3 ports!
I'll probably never buy another open box camera again.
