resurrecting a relic pavilion zt1135

I've had this laptop since 2002. But I've decided to boost it up a little so I can use it as a decent backup. I'm replacing the 20. GB with a 40 and adding an additional 512 RAM for a total of 768MB. It has a celeron processor but I know many of these models were available with a pentium 3. I know there are core 2 duo processors that may fit too but is it worth it to upgrade? And would the XP o.s. recognize the faster processor? (PS I'm very new to computer building and clueless as can be so I appreciate the input)
 
Since this was made back in 2002 then it will not accept a core 2 duo. You basically wasted your money upgrading already. It's time for a new machine.

I'm just keeping it around as a back up and for pidly stuff when a laptop is convenient for me. Not trying to land the space shuttle. So far I've got virtually nothing invested into it other than a battery. Never the less... thanks for the response I won't waste any time trying to track down a different processor.
 
update!

I've installed a 40GB hard drive (as it's the largest this computer was designed to handle, yes you can laugh) but otherwise made no changes. I've tried 3 times to use the old Recovery discs but midway thru the 3rd disc i'm met with the same failure message. "could not load image" -or something to that effect... after that I get a DOS screen and cant do anything else. Any thoughts?
 
Lo and behold 4th time is a charm. it finally decided to load this time and is working well now... -as well as an unsupported, slow, 13 year old computer can work... Maybe i can find a kid and trade them for their leap from. -pretty sure its got more power.
