The Nexus 5 is still a good phone and available on the play store for $349 :good:

Otherwise look for a Moto X.

Look at the Moto X, they just ended a promo that would have gotten you a 2014 Moto X brand new for $350, but they have promos running quite frequently. You can also look at a slightly used phone, you can get a G3, S5, One M8, for the $300 or lower range easily.

Lol what. If he's got the money for a phone what's to stop him from buying one that's nice and what he wants? Just because he's young doesn't mean it should be a "dumby" phone or cheap.

Most people are retarded with budgeting, especially with no income.

He's free to do whatever he wants, it's just an alternative mindset to reconsider blowing all the cash you have all the time. It felt like a stretch for me to drop $300 on my 2nd gen Moto X and we're a six figure household..

I totally see where you're coming from, don't get me wrong. However at least for me at the age of 14 I didn't really have expenses and would just get money as gifts or for odd jobs (mowed a lot). Also he said he had budget of 300 bucks, that doesn't mean that's all his cash in the world.

But generally yeah, people are stupid with money. Myself included a lot of the time. I felt richer when I was a younger teen making 30-45 a week mowing vs now when I make 100 a week with stuff to pay for regularly.

He has no income. He asked what phone to buy. He already has a smart phone.
We are simply telling him the SMART thing to do and same some money not blow everything he's got. And at 13, he won't have much more than $350. A phone can only get so good, at 13, what the hell is the difference between a $150 smart phone and a $300 smartphone?? There is no difference, texting, web, and games is all he'd do, there is no " need " for it there is no business side of it all it is, is going to school bragging about this expensive phone no one else has, and then while ruffing around he's gonna loose it or break it. Or it'll get stolen at school. A 13yr old with a $300 phone is A pointless and B retarded. If I had the money I would only CONSIDER upgrading for something better with photography. My iRulu while an off brand it is a damn good phone.

No, it's logical thinking. Something you have not figured out yet.
Read what you said in bold. Just because YOU do not see the need for a new phone, and would rather spend it on photography, does not mean he feels the same way.

For you, a phone may just be a simple tool, but for many of us, myself included, phones are a hobby. I get new phones every year, sometimes more often, not because it does things differently per say, but just because I love technology and love smartphones. You may be happy using a $150 Moto G, but I know I sure as hell would not be.

He has $300 to spend. Why do you care if he spends it on a phone, or spends it on a cheap laptop or camera? If he really likes phones and what they offer, more power to him.

It's not that I care. It's that he asked and I stated my opinion and why I have that opinion. If ya don't want to know opinions from EVERYONE then don't ask publicly lol ;)

Ah yeah. No worries at all :D

I felt a lot more 'well-funded' at 40k with not too many bills than I am at 85k trying to juggle a bunch of crap too lol.

He asked for an opinion on what phone to purchase given his budget. Suggesting something is what he wanted, not saying "don't spend your money, you're too young"." What a great and constructive opinion. Guess you should go stake out the desktop section and tell all the younger people going through there they shouldn't spend money because they probably have an old computer laying around the house since they "already have one" as you say.

I generally get along with people pretty well on here but you really need to think about what you're saying because most of the time you just spout bull.

I think that if this is a financial mistake, it's better he make it now rather than when he lives on his own.

He didn't ask if he should buy a phone at his age, he asked what phone he should get for $300 or less.

Most 13 year old's don't even have this level of financial responsibility to save up $300, most spend every dollar they get on food and sugary drinks.

I remember saving up 400 bucks for a big part of my drum set and that was the largest amount of cash I'd ever seen, let alone possessed. I was 13 actually.

Also pretty safe to say Ninja's a bit more mature than most 13 year olds given his post history...

Either way, this whole thread just took a slight shortcut through the mountains then ended up barreling over a cliff and into a deep ravine of hate. Moving forward.

I don't see how buying a 350$ is so bad for you Ben. We've all bought expansive gadgets in our youth, like consoles for example. And you're trying to pass off your hobby of photography as a business plan yet you don't live off that, so until then it is considered just a hobby, a gadget, and an expansive one. No need to be condescending, even to our younger members.
