What phone to get?

Expansive as in expanse means a large space or something of that nature.
Expensive as in expense means it cost a lot.

He asked for an opinion on what phone to purchase given his budget. Suggesting something is what he wanted, not saying "don't spend your money, you're too young"." What a great and constructive opinion. Guess you should go stake out the desktop section and tell all the younger people going through there they shouldn't spend money because they probably have an old computer laying around the house since they "already have one" as you say.

I generally get along with people pretty well on here but you really need to think about what you're saying because most of the time you just spout bull.

The bold part. That's you. Comparing an older smart phone to a older computer is the WORST comparison ever. I didn't say don't spend your money your too young not even CLOSE. I simply said that AMOUNT of money for a 13yr old on a PHONE is not smart. Open your eyes read everything or shut the f up. I told HIM my opinion not you. He would be wise to save some of his money because just wait, next month he is going to want something else. For god sakes you like Obama because he seems like a nice guy. And I spout bull?

@ Ben.

It's not a hobby. A hobby is when you have no plans of doing anything with it is ONLY for fun. That's a hobby. For me, I pay money to learn, I also learn on my own, I also sell my photographs AND I work for people locally too. Enough to sustain myself? No of course not it's not easy for anyone too but I am working on it and I will get there some day. I am starting to make enough money to pay for my equipment so that's a start. But it is not close to a hobby. Expensive? Yes, still not a hobby for me. It's a hobby for you, and Geoff, and Travis, and spirit, because at least from what I know neither of you actually are trying to make a living of it, but rather you all just enjoy shooting and if you can make a few bucks doing it you would. There is nothing wrong with that and it still doesn't make is a hobby for me.

If ninja wants to waist all his money on a phone that's fine. But anyone saying it's even relatively a good idea has lost it. Answer these questions:
What does a 13yr old do with a smart phone. Why does a 13yr old need a NEW smart phone. What are the chances he drops it being the average clumsy 13yr old, leaves it somewhere, it gets stolen at school? I really do get Geoffs point about liking new tech, I do too and I'd love to have money I can just dumb on one new phone after another for the enjoyment of it. So what, a new phone looks pretty. ALL that teaches kids these days is they need to have the latest and greatest at all times to keep up. That's bullshit. What happened to people who were content with what they had. Not everyone is rich like Geoff. Why do you think so many people are in debt. They learn this shit all the time and whoala.

First off, I'm not rich by any means, I simply buy what I want when I want, because after all life is meant to enjoy. If I want a new phone, I get a new phone. If I want to take a road trip across country and eat out while I'm there, I do that.

My point to you NikonGuy, is that you are in no place to tell someone what to spend money on. Sure, I agree that spending $300 on one item is probably not the best idea, but if he really wants to get into say developing for Android, he's not just buying a phone to play games on. Second, $300 is not expensive for a smartphone seeing as how most are $500-$800.

Jesus Christ guys.....

I asked for an opinion. Thanks for the people who gave me an answer. $300 is all the cash I have currently. I have saved up since I bought my computer, about six/seven months ago. I didn't spend any money on anything, no movies, no Riot Points, no Doritos. I'm tired of using a phone that lags while texting a friend. I agree that I don't need a super nice phone, which I'm not trying to buy. I can't afford a new S5 or IPhone. So I'm asking for a fairly budget smartphone. Also, I'm pretty hurt that NikonGuy would call me a stupid, clumsy 13 year old. I'm very responsible with things, I've never left my current phone behind in the last 1 1/2 years that I've had it. I have dropped my phone once or twice before, but that's why I have a case on it. I agree that I don't really need it, but is it wrong to have nice things once in a while?

Also, I do some Unity programming for android so.... Having a good device really helps

I was gonna ask if you were forwarding your bank statements to Nikon.

You can say that again... I have an LG Xenon (GR500) and it's horrible... Luckily my new smartphone will be a graduation gift that hopefully lasts me 2+ years..

Most 13 year old's don't even have this level of financial responsibility to save up $300, most spend every dollar they get on food and sugary drinks.

I remember when I bought my first iPod Touch (3rd Gen) the day it came out... I had $200 in cash. Most I had ever handled up until I started mowing lawns 2 years ago.

When I was 13 I didn't even have a cell phone

I didn't get my first smartphone until 2008, and it was an early Windows Mobile phone (Pantech Duo), then got a Samsung Propel Pro, followed by my first Android phone (HTC Aria) followed by my Inspire 4G and now my Nexus 5.

Also, my first big purchase was a pair of those Bose QuietComfort2 headphones. I think they were $249 or so, and I bought them in 2005 or so.

When you were 13, phone plans on a Family Plan didn't cost $10 a month, and you couldn't get a functional phone for ~$40.

Ninja, I'd be willing to give you my ZTE Zinger for ~$20 when I get a new phone, though no promises. Not very fast but should be significantly better than what you're using now. And BTW, your plan doesn't matter. Any T-Mobile locked phone will work on any T-Mobile plan. Prepaid on Simple Choice, etc.

Lol yeah I know how that is. Even up to 16, $300 is a ton of money for most teenagers. My friend thinks it's insane I get the amount of money I do (which really isn't even all that much, I in general have made around $400 a year since 2012), I just tell him it takes some work and good financial responsibility.

He doesn't get it. I guess most people don't get it until 16 or so, when they get a job (and even then, it seems to take most people a while).

Yeah if you are going to use Tmobile there is 0 need for an unlocked phone...

I've always gotten the vibe that with T-mobile you could stick a potato in the SIM card slot and it would still work. Seems like their plans are pretty open and able to move between phones easily.

Thanks guys, but I still need to know what phone I should buy....

The Moto X has the same specs as the OnePlusOne, and is more expensive. And the Nexus 5 has worse specs and more expensive. Why one of these phones vs a OnePlus?

OnePlus would probably be good too. I actually hadn't really looked into those phones before. Spec wise it's almost identical to my LG.

I didn't realize the OPO was $299. I thought they were more than that.

What I don't understand is if he's gonna use Tmobile anyway he should ask his parents for a monthly thing because my fiancee just got a Samsung Galaxy S5 for $20, and the contract is $25 a month unlimited talk and text and 1gb data...
So he should spend $20-40 depending where he goes for a phone, and spend the rest $280 through out the year paying for the contract... If he blows everything on the phone so it's unlocked, he won't be able to pay for any service lol.

I don't want to start with you again but you really need to shut up. You don't know his financial situation. He wants advice on his phone, not his budget. End of story. Stop.
