Will not start, no POST.

I just finished building my new computer, took me a while, fumbled around a lot. Everything is connected, power supply works. When I give power to the system one blue light blinks near cmos battery and gpu light stays on. Power switch will not start POST or start up at all. No fans are on, I've got nothing...

Mobo: MSI z97

I really don't know all the information I need to put for this problem. All my parts are in the signature.

Do you have the 8 pin CPU aux connector plugged into the MB ? Those are easy to forget.

Beers: 8pin is connected. Don't know if it matters, but the two four pins are connected side by side (8pin) in too the motherboard, and then the solid 8 pin is in the psu.
 
Do you have the power button connected to the correct headers? On most motherboards there is a light that stays on all the time there is power just to show that there is power getting to the board. If your power button is not working/connected wrong though, that is when you will press the button and nothing will happen
 
Update: still nothing tried ninjas suggestion, reinstalled ram and cleared cmos, nothing. Same single blue flash near cmos battery and gpu light still turns on. Nothing else moves. I was having some issues wiring my fans. My case has several fan extenders, so I plugged my sys fans into those, but do not plug into the motherboard. I'm afraid that this might be the issue but I wouldn't think that the intake and exhaust are crucial to power the system. Cpu fan is most certainly plugged in. Really worried...
 
Your fans are plugged directly into the power supply? If so this is fine, the fan speed will just not be controlled by your motherboard. This shouldn't prevent the system from booting.

When you press the power button, is this when the lights come on, or are they always on? If always on, have you checked that your power button is connected to the correct pins?

Do you have a speaker plugged into your motherboard front panel header? If so, is it giving off a beep code?
 
The fans are not directly plugged into the motherboard. They are connected to various two pin, one hole, connectors. The gpu light is always on, but no other light is on, except for that single blue flash. No speakers connected.
 
Are these the fans which came with the case?

Check the power button cable is plugged into the correct pins... If nothing is happening when you press the button, chances are the power button is hooked up wrong.

Alternatively, take the power button out of the equation and if you want, get a flat head screwdriver and short the two power button pins on the motherboard. This will act the same as pressing the button, but without that component.
 
Will try when I go home. I'll update you guys as soon as I try! So just the same place my power switch is plugged in the motherboard, gotcha.
 
When you say "GPU light" what are you meaning. Does the cooler have some light on it?

My guess would be power switch as well.

The cooler does not have the same light, not that's easily observable anyways... But yeah I'm gonna check the placements iN a few minutes
 
An easy oversight, I did not plug in my jbat1 jumper. Only problem is, when I plug it in, I can no longer short the power switch, also the gpu power light turns off, and a light near the cmos turns solid blue.

In regards to Darren: By gpu light I mean a light indicating that power is being fed to the GPU, or at least that's what I'm assuming... I'm looking into the solid blue cmos light now.
 
Why can you not short the power switch if your CMOS cap is on?

Did you make sure that the CMOS cap is on the correct pins? It should say on the motherboard, or check your manual if you are not sure
 
I found that I could switch my audio to direct power, straight from the PSU so I flipped it (with power off of course) and now the audio boost light and another small red light flashes simultaneously and then goes dark.

On pretty much every board I have seen there are either two pins, which when shorted will reset CMOS, or three pins in a configuration of

1 2 3

where the cap should be on pins 1 and 2. When you move the cap to pins 2 and 3, this resets the CMOS, and then you should swap back.

Best to check the manual for confirmation on that
 
GOT IT! Sys fan chord was plugged into the mobo, while the system fan molex was already plugged into psu, creating a double channel causing power to be cut off!
