Pick me a laptop please...

My piece-of-crap Gateway finally crapped out this morning and I need a new laptop.

I need something thats under $300, has at least 2GB of RAM, at least a 120GB HDD, and a screen bigger than 14 inches. If it doesn't have a DVD drive its worthless to me. I also want Windows 7 and ABSOLUTELY NO HP-BRAND!
I would shoot myself before I buy another HP piece-of-crap.

Well you seem to know what you're looking for pretty well so why not actually.... look for it. Bring a few options to the table to discuss. Don't just demand us to do something for you that would take you 10 minutes. You will probably need to go used based of your budget and the fact that you want Windows 7.

I posted the list of refurb machines for less than $300 below in another thread recently. All good machines. Mostly 14" though but the odd 15" is in the list (not a big difference between 14" and 15" really).

I think you'd be best off getting a professionally refurbished machine with $300.

There's lots of options. Have a look through the refurbished laptops on Newegg.

Alternatively you could look for a refurbished or used Surface Pro or Surface Pro 2 tablet. I love my first generation Surface Pro - with an i5 3317U and 4GB of RAM it is still powerful enough and the Surface Pros are very well-built, versatile tablets/devices. :good:


And yes, there is an HP in that list but you don't have to buy it or even look at it. I just copied & pasted my list from another thread.

Dell Precision M6300. I bought one on ebay without a hard drive or power adapter, bought the components and slapped it together. Use it for Netflex. Has Windows 7 Ultimate and screen size is 17.3".

Keep in mind that if you chose to install the OS pick the 32 or 64 bit Vista drivers from Dell support. They will work in 7.
