Windows 7 Professional/W10

I have W7 Professional which includes Windows Virtual PC. I currently have W XP installed on it.

Is it feasible to download W10 Preview into a new folder on this Virtual PC

Peter

I don't think it will work as MS hasn't updated Virtual PC with newer emulated hardware that can support Win 10.

You would be better off installing either VirtualBox or VMWare Player (both are free programs) as both of those are kept up to date and definitely will support running Win 10 as guest OS.

Thank you for your reply.

I have downloaded VirtualBox (Version 4.3.28) and W 10 Preview,

When I go to Welcome to VirtualBox and press NEW and name it Windows 10 Preview, the version list does not include any 64 bit versions for W7, or W 8.1..

I am using Computeractive Workshops Article in Magazine Issue 443 "Download the new Windows 10 Preview" which shows the W8.1 (64 bit)

Is there an update available for VirtualBox which I am missing or is there some other explanation for my problem.

Go into your system BIOS and enable Virtualization. That way you can run 64-bit OS' virtually.

Microsoft has XP mode available for Windows 7. It's a free download and the license for XP is free. I use the technical preview in VMPlayer Virtual machine. There is also Oracle's Virtual Toolbox that is available.

You should read more of the thread than just the original post, because in another post OP says he installed Virtualbox.

I installed Windows 10 64-bit under VMware Player. VMware Player is free for non-commercial use. I set Windows 10 update for the "fast" ring so I get the latest updates. Right now Windows 10 is up to build 10.0.10130 (May 29).

I don't know how many more public releases (if any) there will be because Windows 10 will be available for purchase on July 29, 2015.
