Best Router for the Money?

I have discovered that my router that I using, that was provide by my ISP, is a slow turtle and I want to upgrade. I'll be putting the old router into bridge mode and adding a new/upgraded router to the network.

After doing some research I have discovered that there is a new technology of wireless routers called "AC" and after searching for these AC routers I have found out that these routers are not cheap, at lease the "good ones" aren't. Some are like in the $300.00 range:(

What router is the best bang for the buck?

I want gigabit speed LAN ports and wireless 802.11ac (5GHz) technology.

Thanks for the help

Do you have any AC spec NIC cards? If you don't have any AC NICs you won't see any improvement over an N router. I understand the desire to futureproof though.

How fast is your Internet connection? Do you have any other requirements?

No, no AC spec nic cards. I could get some though:D

Internet connection is 18mbps, but I'm wanting to increase my intranet speed. I do large data transfers from PC to PC as well as stream video in and out side of network.

I'd hold off on AC right now, as wave 2 AC are just now starting to be announced. You can get a cheap dual-band N wireless router, then upgrade to a wave 2 AC wireless router a year or two down the road once you get AC clients.

Sweet! Thanks for the heads up!

You saved me some money then.

So, what is the best wireless N router out there?

You don't have AC, but this is still a blazing fast and reliable router.

You can get the Asus N66U for about 120 dollars.
It support both 2.4 and 5GHz, the coverage is great, I have 2 laptops, 1 TV, 3 phones and also a PS4 and the signal is stable.
As for speed performance the Asus is one of the fastest routers for a price bellow 200 dollars.
