Can't install XP on laptop

My laptop's hard drive died, and I got a Vertex3 SSD and installed it into the system. I have a Windows XP install disc, but once I am in setup it keeps blue-screening halfway into the installation. The stop code is code 50, and its being caused by setupdd.sys  Anyone know how to fix this?

Thanks

Bluescreen during XP install is often caused by XP's lack of SATA drivers. Try going in your BIOS and changing the SATA controller from AHCI to Legacy or IDE and see if that helps.

The alternative is to find a driver for the SATA controller in the laptop. If you can find it, you will need to copy it to a 3.5" floppy disk. When the XP installer asks if you want to install SCSI drivers, put the floppy in drive A and press F6 and the installer will install the drivers from the floppy drive. There's no way to tell it to look anywhere else.

Another alternative is to slipstream the SATA drivers into the XP install CD. http://www.wikihow.com/Slipstream-Your-SATA-Drivers-Into-a-Windows-XP-Installation-CD-Using-nLite

Why not install Windows 7? How much RAM does it have?

The system HAD Windows 7 on it. The laptop has 2GB of RAM. I am into older CD-ROM games and they were too old for 7 to run. I had XP running within VMware for awhile and I was able to play my old PC games in the VM, but I want to just run the whole laptop on XP. I am using a Vertex3 SSD as the laptop hard disk because the previous HDD quit working. I have another 2.5" HDD (not an SSD) that I COULD USE, but if I can get the SSD to work, I would prefer that.

If it originally came with 7 then change the sata controller to ide/sata and then try reinstalling XP. As said, XP doesn't have ahci drivers built in.

I don't believe those had an option for IDE/AHCI since it was SATA 1.5 Gbps

Usually no drives would be detected at all if you didn't have SATA drivers slipstreamed on the disk. TRIM isn't a gigantic issue if the drive has garbage collection. I have a 128 GB Corsair Nova in my Gateway that's about the same age as yours.

Did you pass memtest?
