Help installing drivers

Ok so I got a dell dimension 8200. I installed windows xp on a new hard drive. I can't connect to the internet yet. I dont know witch drives to install . I have three disks that came with the computer. Dell tools cd. Drivers and utilities for reinstalling v.92/56k telephony data/fax/voice modem software for Microsoft windows. Drivers and utilities dell dimension resource cd for reinstalling device drivers and using diagnostics. Utilities and online documentation. Should I download all of them or do I have to do it in some order? I also have two firewall CDs and a cyber link Powerdvd.
 
The Drivers/Utilities resource disc first. There should be a network driver on it that will allow connection to the internet. However, I'd install the chipset and display ones first, that way the resolution will be much more manageable as you go forward with the process.

FWIW, I'd also stay away from the Utilities part of the install and instead opt for installing the drivers individually, not the quick install option that will load everything. No need to bog the system down with stuff you'll probably never use.
 
Modem, Roxio, random applications mean nothing. The Driver resource CD is what you need... Install the drivers individually, not as an install-whole-CD option. Your system will probably prompt you to reboot after most drivers; I usually did to make sure they properly installed.
 
Ok I put it in the cd drive and it said to access it from the start. I click ok then click start it quickly goes away and the start button starts spazzing out. Going away every time I click on it so I had to turn off the computer from the power button. Then I turned on again and alls that showed up was a black screen. The computer was beeping loudly and a message flashed for a milisecond then it shut off. Ummm why happened??! I waited a few minutes and turned it back on seems to be ok now
 
Everything connected to the Motherboard properly? Fans spinning? CPU heatsink free of years worth of dust an 8200 will have? Are they the actual Resource CDs that came with the system or did someone burn them? CD free of scratches/damage?
 
Ok so I downloaded the disk and there's a big list of drivers. It says I have FCC Ethernet 10/100 PCI adapter rev:A02 installed I think. It has a chek next to it and I have a video driver installed
 
Wait, are you talking about the Windows Start button, or a start button on the CD interface?
 
OK - it sounds like the CD auto-started and began to install the contents, hence the Network/Video drivers on the system. Load it back up and let it run, I guess.

Is the Windows Start button behaving now? I would access the disc via My Computer and run the install file, then select what to install, that way you know what the system is doing, one driver at a time.
 
I've already installed the disk and am at the list of drivers. Here's the list of network drivers. Gvc Ethernet 10/100 PCI adaptor rev: a02. (That's the one that has a check next to it). Intel pro/100 M Ethernet adaptor. Itex bell Canada-DSL modem. I want to connect to a router
 
I haven't use the dell resource cd in years. If its got a check next to it, it just means that it detects the hardware and will install the driver when you continue. I do remember that some drivers weren't automatically installed on some machines. Not sure on yours if the driver automatically installs or if you have to extract each install and run separately.
 
Are you clicking on windows update from the start menu? Any error messages? If so, what do they say?
 
Christ dude.

Make sure your clock/timezone/date are correct. There are still some patches available for XP but it hasn't been updated in about a year and a half.
