I need a new router. I have two RT-N56U's that I seem to occasionally be swapping between because one will crap out and lose connection. I want a new ASUS router but the negative reviews drive me away. Does anyone have any suggestions? Limit on price is $250.

I liike the one in my sig. Solid as a rock. Power did fail, but Asus replaced it on the same day.

Yeah, I would say the ac66u or ac68u. I think the 66u is gonna be my next router. Or maybe the ac53u since I'm in a small apartment right now. But I am having some signal issues from the 56u right now. 20 feet away and not even getting full signal.

They were great routers when they were new but my fathers phone only seems to see the 5Ghz radio and the signal doesn't reach all the way to the basement anymore.

I ordered the 66U. Should be here Thursday.

Any specific feature set or anything?

I'm tempted to suggest an ubiquiti ERL and use one or both of the 56us as access points (or if that still sucks then also a UAC-AC from them too). :p

I'd love to go that route, but my father doesn't want to pony up to the price of Ubiquiti equipment and neither do I. Though that would solve 99% of our issues.

Boys with distance or signal issues, download wifi scanner and see what is being used and then change the channel in the web interface fror your router to a channel that isn't congested. Also make sure the power is at 100% in professional area.

Looking at my scan above I am going to change both my channels as particularly the 2.4 is on the same channel with someone close in my apartment.

My house is a 1/4 mile off the road. The nearest house to me is about 375 feet away. I don't have interference issues from other networks.

I have a Netgear R7000 Nighthawk.. It does the job but my guess is you guys are talking about building one..? Little above my skill and knowledge right now.. :P

The 66U should be great, I love my 68U. I would have given you another +1 for the Edge Router Lite. I am using my 68U as an AP only, and using the Ubiquity as my router and it doesn't hiccup at all.

Modem > Ubiquity Edge Router > Switch > AP + Clients
