Well if you're going to post BS saying a better card could be used withe less power than you need too back up your "opinion."
Wow, you have really taken this to heart, I was obviously trying being polite and tactful with you, but this appears to have been completely lost on you. I really hate what some people turn into when they behind a keyboard, no manners at all with a complete inability to hold a civil conversation. I hope for your sake you are not like this in real life.
Anyway
Now its hard to recommend a card for you tngfan as don't know your budget, but I guess you will need a cheap low powered card.
Now a reason I don't recommend the 8800gtx for starters is because of the age, cards don't last forever, it would be like buying a very old car with very high milage, but its up to you if you want to take that gamble.
Now here's an example: the 8800gtx has a tdp of about 150 watts, about 50% more power than a 5 year old gts 450 uses and the gts 450 performs better, so in a nut shell, an old low powered card from 5 years ago beats a 8800gtx. This is all fact that can be confirmed with a quick google, plz don't take my word on it. To be honest tngfan any new card you buy will most likely be bottle necked by the rest of your system, so you wouldn't be able to get the best out of a new card until you upgraded. From what I can see an R7 240 has around the same performance as a 8800gtx and are dirt cheap brand new, any card better than a r7 240, will destroy an 8800gtx. Also consider that an r7 240 has a tdp of about 30 watts and a 8800gtx uses over 400% more power, so yes agent smith I stand by what I said before.
For now I'm not recommending any card without more information from tngfan.
