Which Modem/Router Combo?

I currently have SuddenLink internet service. I think it is 12 MPS. I live in an apt. that is about 800 sq. ft. I am currently renting SuddenLinks modem/router combo and now want my own. My laptop is always about 20' away from my router. I don't game, watch too many videos, or anything else extravagant.
I have narrowed it down to 2 choices, or can I get something cheaper in price? It just has to meet DOCSIS 3.0 requirements.

I talked to a service tech at BestBuy and he said ANYTHING Motorola is better, will last longer, and give better quality than NetGear. Opinions?

The rental fee is $12 a month. Within 8-9 months I can save enough money from not renting one and have paid for my own.

The SBG6580 is probably your best bet if you're specifically married to having an all in one unit.
Per Geoff, I'd probably stick with buying it new, but it's really your call.
