Faster when connected differently to a monitor? cool, but why?

Hi there, and I'd like to say thanks in advance for reading this. So, I was using my computer on my TV, using an DVI to HDMI cord, and there was often lag with some games with my GTX 770. Then I got a desk and hooked up an HD monitor, using the same cord as before but this time, HDMI from the video card to DVI to the monitor, and I have noticed an improvement in performance. I'm wondering why this would be, Thanks.

Are the resolution and refresh rates the same?

You may be talking about input lag and latency as well. TV's have a much slower response time than most computer monitors, so you'll notice lag especially in FPS games. This is why TV's don't make good PC gaming monitors.

I think it's either the refresh rate or the response time. The resolution is the same, but I have an fps counter and the fps isn't different, it's just that the TV needs a much high framerate to look smooth.

Perhaps. Also I have noticed that of course a good HD monitor is a lot smaller than a TV and I sit close to it so the resolution counts for more. I got a good computer desk and find that using a monitor is much superior for an immersive gaming experience.

This is very true. Using a 30"+ TV that is only 1080p when you are just 2' from it is not a pleasurable experience.
