What makes monitors so expensive?

So recently looking into new monitors and trying to understand more about them I read that 60hz monitors will give you a max 60fps gaming experience (given that you get those or more). After looking for monitors with 120hz I didn't find any below 400$ so I searched for TVs instead and I saw like 300hz for 600$ and 50 inches, which I could probably get used to.

So my question. Do those 300hz mean the same than in monitors? Is there anything monitors are better at to offer a better gaming experience or am I better off with a tv?

TV usually have much higher input delays. Depending on the actual value, 300 Hz usually becomes "300 Hz".

You can have higher FPS on 60 Hz monitors but you'll get screen tearing (however it is useful to games like CSGO where the data to the server updates every frame/tick).

I'd stick with the monitor side. Where have you been looking to buy? Some of the 144 Hz gaming monitors at 27" aren't even that close to $400

Hmmm well just took a look at a site where they listed a bunch of 144 and 120hz models since in the average shopping site they don't mention the refresh rate. I didn't quite understand everything since there's like the hz value mentioned with the resolution such as 1920x1080 @ 60hz but then there's like vertical sync and horizontal sync that show like 20-97hz or 40-80hz

Usually only vertical refresh rate is important. Tat is commonly called just "refresh rate" and it effectively limits maximum FPS. Some monitors allow adjusting (vertical) refresh rate between selected values.

Vertical sync means that display and GPU are synced to same refresh rate. When monitor can show only 60 frames per second, GPU can push more but it will cause screen tearing. Vertical sync is more GPU feature than monitor feature.
