Lost HDMI input?

I got a new Samsung 24" monitor for Christmas which I set up with HDMI input. All was well until yesterday. I left the computer on overnight to run a virus scan. This morning, I discovered that the monitor was blank when on HDMI input. I switched to analog and all was well again. What could have happened? I thought that the HDMI cable might be bad, but switching cables led to the same result(!)
 
Check to make sure input for hdmi is selected on monitor. If its set correctly and still won't then most likely hdmi port on monitor is bad.

Monitor is set to auto-detect input, and as I said in OP was running on HDMI input since Christmas. I kinda suspected that the problem was the port...

Question now is whether I return the monitor as bad or just live with the analog input.
