New 27" Monitor

So my Acer 24" monitor is on the blink after countless years of use, so I'm after a replacement. Looking at a 27" as anything bigger seems to be silly money.

Seen these three on Amazon and they seem pretty good -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/BenQ-EW2750...d=1453217193&sr=1-11&keywords=27+inch+monitor

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Acer-G276HL...d=1453217193&sr=1-13&keywords=27+inch+monitor

This one more so;
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VS278H...d=1453217193&sr=1-10&keywords=27+inch+monitor

Any suggestions on a different monitor or comments on the above monitors?

Budget is around what I've linked to, so less than £170 or so.

Thanks!

Don't you want a 1440p monitor if you're going for a 27"? @Darren's monitor is an Acer 1440p and he loves it, you can get the same model in 27" too (also 1440p). I can't remember what the model number is, maybe he can post it.

It depends on how much it is, if it's within my budget then sure!

Hmm I can't find it but looking at the other 27" 1440p monitors it's probably out of the budget.

Of those ones you posted I like the BenQ - that slim bezel looks great and I've had good luck with BenQ. I like Iiyama too, there's a few on Amazon but I think I'd go for the BenQ.

I guess you are intending to use DVI or HDMI? Not DisplayPort?

I have a 1440p 27" IPS display and love it, but I want more screen real estate now. I definitely would not get anything less than 1440p with a 27" display.

Yeah but all the 1440p ones are quite expensive. Maybe 24" is more ideal. I've been using 24" 1080p monitors for years and the 1080p resolution on a 24" display is nice. I think it may be a bit too low for a 27" display.

I was paged? This is what I have, I know they're sold in the UK too.

I'd go 1440p if you can afford it. Definitely worth the extra money. IPS is also preferred. The one above is both, but only 25". For the price though I was okay with sacrificing screen size as a 27" 1440p display was considerably more.
Hmm the 25" 1440p version of that monitor is about £250 over here. That's about £80 over budget but if it were in budget I'd recommend a 25" IPS 1440p over a 27" 1080p any day of the week.

Maybe a good 1080p 24" is the best option. I just think that 1080p is too low a resolution on 27". Are there are any 1080p 27" owners who can comment on this?

Keep in mind the perception of pixel density also has a lot to do with how close you sit to the screen. 27" at 1080p probably would be fine, but you wouldn't want to sit only a few inches away from it. My screen I basically have filling my FOV so the extra pixels are good to have up close. If i had it scooted back on my desk and was leaning back in my chair then a 27" 1080p screen would appear smaller and pixel density would be less of a concern.

Really budget is the limiting factor (as is typical in this hobby), so 1080p is probably the best you're looking it. In that instance I'd say just get the size you want and IPS if you can find it.

I've not really heard much about BenQ, are they good? It does look nice that's for sure.

I'm using HDMI and my second monitor is VGA, but I can use a DVI adaptor if needed.

What's IPS? I currently have a 24" 1920x1200 monitor, but fancy something bigger. The 1080p resolution on the larger screen won't bother me too much if I'm honest.

Thanks for the replies.

BenQ make good monitors. IPS is a type of display that basically just looks the best. Very bright, good color reproduction, and has really good viewing angles. I don't have much technical explanation to back it up, but feel free to research it.

Out of the ones you linked, I'd do the Asus. Although this might be ideal.

IPS is for people who like a wide range and accurate color of their LCD, like photographers and video editors. Normal TFT LCDs have a narrower range of colors and don't show them as they really are. Light grays are often overblown as whites on TFT displays, and dark grays show up as black, with less range of colors as well.

Why do you want something bigger? Most people want larger displays so they can see and do more on the screen. With a smaller resolution, you aren't going to be able to fit anything more on the screen than you do now, everything will just be bigger.

I'm just sort of bored with the 24" and with the oppertunity to go bigger I thought I would. I know I won't be gaining any scree real-estate, but I don't have a problem with it being bigger really.

I was disappointed with my last LG so I'd maybe suggest the Acer.

Response rate is only really important if you're gaming. For photo editing I don't think it matters too much.
