No Phenom is worth upgrading to from a 955 these days. The money you spend on an X6 or a slightly faster X4 would be much better spent investing in a much newer platform.

Oh hey, that's my old board :)

If you wanna go with a 6-core processor you can get the X6-1055T. It's not unlocked though so you can't overclock it as easy. The 1090T is an unlocked hex-core though.

I went from the X2 555BE to the X4 965BE and got that OC'd to 3.8Ghz then switched to the X6 1055T and kept it at the stock 2.7Ghz. If you want to OC go for the 1090T.

I think there was a 980 that was the highest clocked quad, although you could just overclock your 955 to 3.7 GHz and have the same performance.

There are X6's if you need a couple additional threads, but in lightly threaded workloads you'd see zero performance benefit (and maybe even less if it was a lower clocked model).

Personally I wouldn't put any extra money into your existing platform and roll that budget into something more modern like 1151 or AM4 once it drops.

Ok Thankyou all I've decided soon upgrade mobo but in the meantime OC the 955 what would be a mobo that would suit my system my specs are dual gigabyte hd 7950's GPU 16gb GDDR3 ram and 160gb ssd and a xpredator gold 750w psu

You can use your graphics cards, PSU and SSD in a new build with an Intel 1151 socket or an AMD AM4 socket once AMD release their next generation CPUs later on in the year. I wouldn't buy a new AM3 board now, it seems like a waste of money. I would instead start saving up for a new system.

Unfortunately the RAM may not be useful anymore since it is DDR3 and the latest boards are all DDR4. You could sell your Phenom, your board and your RAM as a nice bundle when/if you upgrade though. :)
