Browser (Chrome) issues

I am on Windows 10 on a relatively old (5 year, Pentium Dual Core T4400) laptop. I have long abandoned IE (Edge) for Chrome and FF. Lately, I've found Chrome is taking a long time to do a search. The HD spins a lot and then the result would show. But very slow. When I opened Task Manager, I saw more than one (3-4 sometimes) incidences of Chrome even though I have only one Chrome browser opened.

FF is a lot faster, compared to Chrome.

What's happening with Chrome? Have they gone the route of the old IE and getting themselves bloated along the way?

Also, what do you think about MS's Edge? I haven't really given it the time of the day because they don't have the SpeedDial add-on. Are they fast and clean these days?
 
ssal ; i feel you, Chrome is not what use to be on old machines, i use to be a fan of Chrome but not any more,that's why i installed Firefox and use all three,Firefox,Chrome, Edge,for streaming on some IPTV FireFox is better,for others Chrome is better.
 
It's because you're running Windows 10 on an old POS Pentium Dual Core laptop.

OK. But there is nothing I can do about it. I have anohter i7 for more serious work. This old machine just keeps on clicking. I am not going to throw it away.

FF is definitely much better. I think I am going to use FF on this machine from now on.

Any feedback on the MS Edge on old machines like mine? Again, I hate that it doesn't have Speeddial add-on.

It feels like any feedback you'd be given will automatically be appended with notes about the speed dial.

You have W10, it's installed, you can probably make your own conclusion.
 
Edge is alright. Not terribly advanced but if you like simplicity then maybe it's the browser for you.

When I was having issues with Chrome freezing on my Windows 10 PC recently (which is by no means low spec!) I was advised to rename the Chrome executable to chrome.exe.exe and that worked. Reinstalling multiple times and disabling extensions etc didn't work but that did. It's a shot in the dark but maybe give that a go.

It could be a problem with system performance in general though which means that renaming the exe won't do a thing. Have you tried scanning for Malware? Is it like this with a fresh install of Windows? Did you upgrade from 7 or 8.1 to 10 and also migrated all of your files across? Upgrade installs of Windows are never great.
 
I don't have the same problem with FF. So I just unpinned Chrome from the taskbar. End of it.
