Running dual-different cards?

When I get my new PSU I plan to get an R9 390 as well. Could I keep my 6950 in the PC, put the 390 in my other x16 slot, and not Crossfire the cards but have my small monitor on the 6950 and my larger monitor on the 390 for dual monitors or do I need same series card even when not Crossfire-ing?

By the time you get your PSU, the R9 390 will be discontinued..

Why would you bother doing this instead of using just one card? Yeah you could get it to work but I see no point.

Yes and the 6950 will actually be an antique and in museums because it will be over 100 years old. ;)

Why would you do this anyway? No real reason or benefit. All you'd be doing is taking up a slot on your motherboard, consuming power and generating heat. I don't think you can run those cards together anyway because they are completely different GPUs and there would be driver problems.

As above, sell it or put it another PC.

No. 390 is definitely more.

*glances at flickering lights*

:)
Hahaha, but still, why buy a bigger power supply to power a 390 and a rather outdated 6950 when you could save money by buying a smaller power supply to just power the card you actually want to use: the 390 of course. :)

I'll probably go through with my other plan of putting the 6950 in my old HP Pavilion to "beef it up" or use my old parts in an HTPC build. I have old mobos laying around

Actually yeah sell it and buy a PSU. :D

How's the PSU fund coming along? :)
Doing good, got $50 so far. And I can't sell the 6950 to get my PSU because my motherboard doesn't have onboard video and then I'd have to save $300 to buy a new GPU just so I can use my rig
