If you use the built-in music player, there is a better option and I will tell you about it.

I use a free app called Onkyo HF Player to play the music on my phone and it is so much better than the iOS built-in music player. In Onkyo HF Player the music is louder at max volume compared to max volume in iOS music player, and I have large Skullcandy Hesh2's and the drivers in those are huge and they weren't loud at all in the iOS music player but with Onkyo HF Player my headphones were really loud and I could actually feel the bass. You can also drag and create custom equalizers and I have one that makes my music really loud and lots of bass but you can customize it to how you like it. Seriously, the iOS music player sucks, please give Onkyo HF Player a try. It is so much better.

Disclaimer: Some iTunes songs have DRM (.m4p) files but most iTunes-purchased music (.m4a) will play in the app.

Kewl, i dont have a ios device tho :(
It also works on Android but I don't know what the Android music player is like so I was only talking about iOS. Go on the Play store or whatever you use and look for Onkyo HF Player. It also works on tablets. ;)
