Windows 10?

I'm 68 years old and have been with Microsoft since DOS 1. When I sit behind Windows 7 I feel like I'm sitting behind and using a real computer. When Windows 8 came out I wanted to cry. When I work with Windows 10 I feel like I'm watching TV, using a cell phone and something that the kids and ladies like. I know I have to keep up with the times but does anyone else feel like this or is it just me and if it's just me then I better start back on my Windows 10 studies. Just because I don't like it doesn't make it bad. Maybe I'm the one who has to change and I know that is true but I just wanted to vent a little. After all I feel I'm entitled to it.

My father has less than 1 year on you and his feelings were pretty much the same when I upgraded his computer. It took him a few months, through trial and error, to get a base understanding of the differences.

He's pretty good with everything now, and trust me - if ever there was a person reluctant to change - its him!! I truly feel if he can make the adjust that most of us can.

I'd personally stick to 10, read up, ask questions here - even subscribe to newsletters to your email. Alot of them offer great tips, tricks, and general info to help the majority of us that aren't, shall we say, techie.

Install ClassicShell to get rid of that excuse for a start menu and you should be good.

ClassicShell for Windows 10?
I think it's best Start Menu we've seen in a looong time, despite the settings to configure it proberly are scattered throughout the entire OS.. :D

What annoyed me is how often the new start menu changes as Windows 10 progresses. I'm on the insider build track and recently they changed the whole look of the start menu, I'm about to install Classic Shell again.

Windows 10 for me is great,Thats after ive tweaked it..cant do with it stock it doesn't feel right.

What i do after a fresh install.

  • Install Startisback - True windows 7 start menu.
  • Edit - WaitToKillServiceTimeout from 12000 to 0 - Windows 10 at default takes too damn long to close unresponsive apps or apps that are left open on shutdown,With this tweak its instant.
  • Disable the Lock Screen - Useless function for a desktop Pc.
  • Reduce boot delay timeout value from 30 seconds to 10.
  • Disable Defragmeter - Why this is even enabled when i only have 2 SSDs on my system is silly,Surely windows should detect this and disable it automatically,You dont defrag SSDs.
  • Install Process Hacker 2 - Windows Task manager is slow at closing tasks imo,Process Hacker replaces the Windows task manager and when i choose to end a task using Process hacker its instantly kills the process.

didnt notice any changes in the start menu as windows 10 progressed.i hung onto winxp like a demon, but i really feel comfortable with windows 10.still lookin for the catch tho.lol

Nothing but frustration with WIN 10. I am ready to go back to WIN 8.1. By the way, I am 74. Loved XP. Thought Vista was the best in spite of the bugs that I never ran into. I liked WIN 7. Am learning to make my way around on WIN 8.1-a system Voyagerfan99 endorses. WIN 10 can't do much of any of the things I want it to do. It just doesn't have the wherewithal to do them???!!! I'm not worried about the Start menu. Classic shell does it for me. I like the graphics in WIN 10. I have two computers running with WIN 8.1 and am going to go back to 8.1 with this machine in a minute. I'm not nostalgic and like getting up to speed but WIN 10 is ridiculous!

You're ending up with your own system. You spend a lot of time correcting Microsoft's errors.

90% of what I do when installing any Windows is configuring the stupid stock configuration and setup in to something you can use :)
