Upgrade Laptop or Buy New?

Hey guys. It has been a while since I have been on here aside from some lurking to see what some of the more interesting members post when I am bored. My girlfriend is considering buying a new laptop so I figured it would be a good time to log back in.

She has a toshiba satellite L755-S5110. It has served the purpose of getting her through school but it is slowing down and the battery is shot. I am considering replacing the battery and installing an SSD but wanted to get some opinions on whether this system is even worth putting money into. Would this be viable for a few more years or am I just buying her another year or so when this money could be put into a new laptop?

She is looking at some other laptops between $800-1000 if she had to upgrade. The main purpose is to get through a year or so of grad school. She is looking at something for light gaming and school so it would have use beyond just web browsing, etc.

Any how let me know what you think. Upgrade a few parts or put it to a whole new laptop?

My thought is that its only a dual core and only 4gb of ram. Personally would just get a new one.

The Inspiron 7559 is a good buy, just skip the SSD during configuration and do it yourself, I popped a 850 evo into mine, and it screams.
