Want to give a S5 phone to a grand daughter which im not using. I got it from at&t but i have a S7 Edge.
Her provider is different. Can i unlock this phone legally and how and give to her. To say again im not
trying to do something illegal. Whats the rules and can i unlock my self.
thanks

You'll have to contact the provider of the phone to see if it can be unlocked, if it isn't already. They will need to enter a code to unlock it. Make sure you let them know what new provider would be as some phones can't be unlocked to other providers. Sprint is iffy, should be fine for Verizon and possibly Tmobile

She may have gotten it at walmart but walmart is not a phone carrier. Is hers a prepaid phone or something like straight talk or net10?

finally talked to the daughter. She says the plan is with Walmart and i asked for the carrier she said Walmart family Mobil.

Looks like that service actually uses Tmobile network though. The S5 is one of the phones they can use, so it may work. Will have to ask to to see if you can unlock an att phone for Tmobile.

There is no such thing as Walmart Family Mobil.

If it is T-Mobile, it will work but misses their band 12 (extended range LTE), so indoor and rural coverage will be poor.
