What is your budget? And you would want to run at least recommend specs not minimum for games. So you would be looking at an I5 quad core instead of an I3 dual core. What is your location and store where you would be purchasing this?

Well My budget Is about 1000 dollars

http://nz.pcpartpicker.com/list/6PwP3F 1062 dollars.

Only a 500gb HDD, but you can easily add another at a later date, but at this budget you can't really afford an i5.

What's with the 380? Wouldn't a 490 still be cheaper?

Unfortunately, with the currency conversion/prices there, you'll have some trouble fitting the recommended specs in that budget, but @Shlouski is leading you in the right direction.

EDIT: Quick research reveals that the 480 is wayyyy price-spiked in NZ, my b.

I'd listen to @johnb35, personally. It'd be much more worth it to save for the i5 instead of rushing into it and getting the i3.

NZ prices suck. Way more higher then ours.

Holy cow, +6.18% consumer prices? ~16% lower purchasing power overall as well.

That blows man, I wish the best of luck to you.

I still wouldn't get the I3. The game he wants to play recommends an I5, with minimum being an I3 but in todays age, why limit yourself to a dual core? Chances are he will need the quad core which he wishes he would have gotten in the first place. Get the right cpu the first time instead of paying more money again for the new cpu.

I agree, like I say the I5 would be better and would be my choice too if I had the money, but the I3 is the best on that budget and I have no idea how constrained he is to his budget. It may be only a dual core, but it still beats many AMD quad cores, so it seems number of cores isn't the be all and end all, but with the extra power of the I5 he could upgrade is gpu in the future and it would be less likely to bottleneck.

Something new is always around the corner, which is why future proofing its mostly futile. If an AM3+ offers the best price for performance in your workload and price range then it should be a consideration, but if AM4 is coming very soon and your not in a hurry to buy then it might be an idea to wait and see how they compare price to performance.

The FX 6300 is 100 dollars and quite good for the price, its even cheaper than intel's i3 cpu's, e.g the i3 6100 which is 10 dollars more but slower.
The FX 3850 is also good for its price, but not as good as the A10-7890K which is cheaper and faster.

VS.

You confuse me.

I think John's last link is one of the best.. It's older, but WILL perform pretty good. I'd recommend picking up a OEM key from Kinguin here. It's less expensive, and performs just as well as a retail copy (used them on 2 of my builds).

You might be able to bump the GPU up a notch with the saved $
