How fast/good is my CPU?

What I want to know is how good my CPU is, and also some clarification as to its speed. I have just started researching computer components and how they work/ relate to each other, and frankly, I'm quite clueless.

here is what my system information window says about the processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U CPU @ 2.00GHz 2.60GHz (I decided to type it out in case the picture doesn't load)

I dont know which one of the two speeds listed is the actual speed, or if they are 2 speeds for 2 cores, or if its some sort of min max performance, if you could help clear this up for me I would be very grateful.

Ah, I see... Thank you and sorry for my ignorance. So the second value (2.60GHz) is the speed at which it's currently operating? or does it mean something entirely different?
 
Windows read frequency readings incorrectly a lot of the times.

As suggested, use CPU-Z to determine the actual real-time frequencies of the processor.
 
On a somewhat related note I wish Intel would list their CPU's based on their Turbo clock and not their "normal" clock. My i5 4200U sounds downright pathetic followed by a "1.6GHz". It clocks up to 2.6GHz though on two threads and 2.3GHz if on all 4 threads.
 
But that's because you can turn off Turbo Boost in the BIOS. So you can't quote a turbo boost clock as their normal clock.

By the same merit you could just downclock it in the BIOS, but I see your point. The vast majority of consumers don't even know what a BIOS is let alone use it.

I mean most CPU's are marketed that way, AMD too. I just feel lame because my i5 4200U 1.6GHz sounds like a wimp. :D

I'm an AMD man, gotta have them gigahertz!
 
BLK and/or MULTIPLIER options may not be available to OEM boards. Turbo Boost on the other hand, can still be enabled/disabled.

Yeah I see your point. Just seems to be kind of underselling something because people will just see the first number and be like "oh, it's that fast".
 
Oh this thread is golden. We just need to see what kind of mediocre performance Zen has and what Intel has in store to battle it ;)
