Note 7

I was looking forward to this phone, I could overlook the non removable battery,
bringing back microsd was a good move, but why no choice of a flat screen or edge model.
I just dont like the edge screen, as big a note fan as I am.
Im thinking of just holding on to my old note 4 for now, it is nearing two years old now, but still going strong, and the screen is still awesome. Only downside, is I doubt whether it will ever see Android Nougat, it would be good if they could be more transparent with software upgrades.
I am interested to see what the LG V20 has to offer and also the iphone 7 pro, might possibly tempt me back to Apple.
Anybody use and prefer the edge screen over the non edge screen?

Man, I was going to get the S7 Edge, then I didn't because of the edge screen and fearing it would be a bad choice... then I got hyped about the Note 7 and for the same reason I'm still using my S4 LTE..

Just seen too many reviews that lead me to believe it will drop easily and the GG5 glass is getting poor reviews for scratches and the device just seems too thin and flimsy for $1000

I went to the sprint store to actually look at the phone and test it out but was shocked to see that my note 3 has a bigger screen then the note 7 and I hate the fact that it is curved. So for now, I'm staying with my note 3 until something bigger comes out. I'm pretty pissed that they didn't make a flat screen note. Stupid not too.

Funny, my old man also has a Note3...and its beat to hell--they even offered him $200 off on trade in, and he says.."can you hammer in those dumbass edges so I don't drop it".... the kid stood there like...duhhhh uhhhh...ummm bahhhh

I bought my note 4 for a little over $700 in Australia shortly after its release, it was on special. The note 7 price here is AU$1349
Thats nearly double the price, so not only is the designs becoming more like Apple, so is the price.
I have also read reviews where people saying gorilla. Glass is scratching easily. I wouldn't use a phone without a case, cause I do drop my phone and I can't afford to repair or replace. It if it gets damaged too badly.
I would use the Samsung brand screen protector, if the note 4 is anything to go by, they are by far the best brand, none of that extreme protection of the tempered glass screen protectors, but the Samsung plastic screen protectors don't ruin the look. Of the phone. And to say they are a waste of time and money, somebody in my family had an iPhone, I'm sure it got run over by a car, the case was damaged and cracked, the screen protector was also fairly badly torn, but when taking the screen protector off, the screen was not cracked at all.
I have also read bad things about the battery life on the note 7, but not sure. If that was an isolated incident or a more widespread problem.
But for people like myself who like and frequently use the spen, thee really is no other choice out there.
So I may just keep my note 4 and see what the note 8 has to offer. I'm still really happy with the note 4, I haven't seen any new feature that would make me want to upgrade, and I would probably be annoyed at the features I would be losing, like the removable battery and the flat non edge screen. One of the reasons for not liking the edge screen is that it looks like most of the cases may not adequately protect the screen in a drop as they are all recessed without a lip for the edge sides of the screen.

Honestly, I'm with you man.. I'm sticking with my old Galaxy S4... the newer devices, particularly this Note 7 seem like a dispointment and not worth the upgrade for minimal improvement...and hugely inflated price tag!

As I was using my phone now, the battery died, I just swapped it out, for people who. Use their phones a lot, it is an indispensable feature. Using a portable battery pack to slowly recharge your battery is not the same thing. It's a shame the Fairphone project or Google's modular phone project never really happened. Looks like the LG V20 may be my only choice to get a replaceable battery in a large screen phone, and I doubt they will sell that in Australia, so I would have to look at a grey import.

I really wouldn't mind the Note 7, but the swappable batteries are what I love about my LG G4. It's why I overlooked the S6.

I have a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 battery pack from Aukey that I got for $20 when Newegg had some deals going on. 10400mAh, and charges my phone 2-3 times rather quickly.

I would have said 'meh who cares about swapping batteries' until my current phone got a bloated battery about 14 months in and had to be replaced.. never had that happen before, but because of that experience I really plan to stay away from these models that are not user serviceable.

This is me. I can understand not needing a battery to be hot swappable, but if I can't personally replace the battery without having to completely break/disassemble the thing, I'll look at a different phone. Batteries are the first thing to go with phones usually, and if I can't replace it easily then I don't bother with that specific phone.

Absolutely agree^^ until you are affected by something, it may fly under the radar..but when it happens to you, you just don't forget or forgive

What version of Android is your note 3 running on?
I have been trying to find out from Samsung what their policy is on how long they will continue to provide updates to the latest version of Android for, and also how long they will continue to provide security patches. I could not get a definitive answer.
Also all this nonsense of Android doing security updates, and then it taking ages for Samsung to do the updates, that is if they decide to do it at all, then there is the issue of how long before the carrier takes to release the update, that is total rubbish.
I couldn't find a website or answer from Samsung on how long they will continue to provide security updates for the note 4.
Samsung make the best displays on the market and they create some really nice hardware, but the whole software side of things is a bit of a joke.
I think the only viable options for my next phone are either a nexus device or an iPhone.
Google nexus say they will support their devices with the latest version of Android for two years, and they will provide security updates for three years or 18 months after the the last date on which the device is sold. This is fully transparent and stated on their website.
I have an iPhone 4s which got a full 5 years of updates. It was purchased in 2011 and in 2016 is running on the very latest version of ios. It won't get ios10 though. And not sure if it will continue to get security updates. The battery is 5 years old and still working though not sure how well it is still holding its charge, but my dad has not complained about the battery. Compared to the nexus 5 which they say will not get android nougat, so that has been I think 3 years of updates. I think they are blaming Qualcomm for not being able to upgrade the nexus 5 to nougat.
I know security may not be important to a lot of people, or having the latest operating system may not be important, but for me it is, I have too many critical things on my phone to just ignore it.
I like how iPhone say that there upcoming ios10 will support every iphone from the iPhone 5 and above. There is transparency in their updates and you get them direct from apple, none of that three layered rubbish with massive delays and uncertainty in between.
There is a good chance i am going back to Apple for my next phone. I think I will miss the notification led more than anything else.
If google had kept Motorola and continued to manufacture every nexus device by Motorola, I would consider that as a viable option, I don't like how they keep using different manufacturers.

In Samsung's defence looks like they were using an aftermarket charger which could have been dodgy
After reading a story of somebody being killed from using a dodgy charger, I make sure I only use the ok charger or a reputable brand one which is certified for Australian use.

I'm on the 5.0 and they won't upgrade it further. It's already 3 years old. I would rather have a phone with an SD card and removable battery. I'm not sure if sprint will have the new nexus or not. I doubt I'll get the new LG phone either. Heard bad things about their previous phones. So not sure what I'll end up getting.

My note 4 is running marshmallow 6.
Of all the upgrades, this is by far my favourite upgrade of them all, I really like being able to set permissions at the app level.
If you want a removable battery, LG is the only android option for new release phones,, unless you consider windows.
I saw in a video that Samsung were selling refurbished. Note 4's for $175
The quad hd screen is a big upgrade over the note 3, and it. Is the last note series. Phone to ever have both a removable battery and a microsd card., but from what I have read, it is unlikely to ever get nougat.
It will be interesting to see this year's HTC made nexus devices, they definitely won't have removable batteries.
