Need help for upgrading GPU!

Hi guys,
I'm currently using a Dell XPS 8700 desktop:
  • CPU: Intel Core i7 4790 @ 3.60GHz Haswell
  • RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz
  • Motherboard: Dell Inc. 0KWVT8
  • Graphic: 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 720
  • PSU: 450W
I need to upgrade my graphic card for both learning and gaming. I've never upgraded a graphic card before, so I'm afraid of buying a card that won't fit into the case; or having problems like bottleneck, not enough power supply,...many things that I have very little knowledge of. My budget is about 400$ for both graphic card and PSU (if the PSU needs to be upgraded). I just need good performance at 1080p right now. 1440p is nice. Thanks.

You should be able to use something like a GTX 1060 6 GB on your setup with the same PSU, which would be a massive fugging step up from that 720.

Don't get the 3 GB version as it contains a lesser amount of CUDA cores.

Personally, I would upgrade the PSU as well to a more quality 500-600w unit, though.

The 1060 is great for 1080p... but if you plan on playing games in 1440p, you might want to consider a gtx 1070.

Thanks. I think this is the best choice.

I bet that psu is only pushing 300 watts max. What is the model number of the power supply?
I think I'm going for an EVA PSU btw.

Plenty for a 750Ti.
Thanks. I think I will go for a GTX 1060 or RX 480.

Because it does what he needs, doesn't need a new PSU and is cheap.
Maybe a year or so ago but 750 TI's aren't exactly "comfortably" running new games at 1080p.

Also kind of a bold assumption considering you don't know what he plays.
