Considering to switch to an Android phone

After using the iphone 5c and 4s, I am seriously considering an Android phone to be my next smartphone.

While iPhone has a lot going for it, I find the $700 for only two years is an expense I don't need. I think a $200 Android would serve me well for what I use it for.

I am having problem with iPhone requires you to buy the fix ram and charge you an outrageous amount for an additional 32 gb. Android would let me put a microSD for under $10 per 32gb. Then the battery. iPhone seems to program it to fail after 20 months, just in time for you to upgrade to a new phone.

Yes, I like iMessage, faceTime and have a lot of fun connecting with my grand children. But with Android, there are alternatives. WhatsApp would kind of replace them. I don't really use the camera seriously because I am a very serious photographer. I just can't accept the quality of the images. I use it for convenience, like take picture of a broken item and trying to find it in HomeDepot.

My question is, how do I transfer all the information I had accumulated in my iPhone (iTune). Here are the items I want to transfer to the Android and would appreciate some advice on how:

Contact information
Some photo/video
WhatsApp history
Messages and history
eMail and history

Is there some app that would retrieve them from my iTune which I frequently backup my phone?

Since most of the Android phone let you slip in a microSD card (say, 64gb), do you really need to have 64gb built in ram, which is about a hundred plus dollar more from the basic 16gb.

Can you store your apps in the microSD card or you must store it in the built in ram?

Stop right there. Most flagship phones did away with MicroSD, so you might want to research phones before you even consider switching to Android.

The S7 Edge has MicroSD, technically their most flagship currently with the Note7 recalled

Technically, the latest android version supports installing apps onto the microsd, but no one I know of actually enabled that option because they're afraid that users will remove the microsd out and replace it with something else later down the road... which would cause some issues as you're not suppose to be doing that.

So to answer your question @ssal, no you can't install apps on microsd.

Most email providers top out at a few gigs anyways so it's irrelevant. The MicroSD card can be used for media as you mentioned, as well as offline maps. The rest are pretty much left to the apps. Some apps that use a significant amount of storage give you the option where you want that data to be stored.

If you are using a properly modern email, you should not worry about backing up email. They will all be online for you.

Don't worry too much about the internal storrage. 16gig vs 32 gig... in my opinion it isn't a deal breaker if you find the phone you like and it only has 16 gig. Throw in a 64gig SD card for 20 bucks, and you are good.
It's nice to have 32 internal so you don't have to move things around too often, but it's not a deal breaker.
My current phone is my first 32gig phone. I have done fine with 16. But that ofcause depends highly on how much video recording you do. That's takes a lot of space.
