What SSD can i use to replace my current HDD?

Product Name: HP Elitebook 840
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HDD is starting to get a little slow and I want to upgrade to an SSD. I borrowed an empty SSD from a friend to test the speeds but it didn't show up in BIOS. This is a standard Samsung SSD that should work. Is there a problem with my computer or is it compatibility problems with the SSD brand or type?

I am also looking into upgrading from 8GB to 16GB RAM can somebody link 1 stick of 8GB RAM that will work with my computer without replacing the current 8GB stick.

SSD I used: Samsung SSD 840 PRO 128GB (Model number: MZ-7PD128)

Does your Elitebook have 2 HDD bays? How are you testing the SSD? Have you tried the SSD in an external caddy to make sure it works?

As for RAM, I'd personally be looking at a 8GB+8GB kit and swap out the single current one for a matching dual channel kit. Crucial, G-Skill, Kingston all sell these DDR3L sodimm kits for like $60

If you really need to go with just 1 due to budget,, same brands but half the price!

I am 100% sure the SSD works and I have tested it by writing to with from my Desktop PC. My laptop does not have 2 bays and I have to replace the current HDD with an SSD by removing the HDD

I guess I'm not understanding what you are doing then?

What are you testing? and with an empty SSD put into the laptop, of course it wont do anything.
I was going to test what kinds of speeds I could get and if it was worth to buy one myself. The point is that the SSD Isn't even showing up in BIOS and the computer is not able to detect the SSD.

Clear cmos and try again. I had this problem once.
Also remove any security feature that might prohibit any unknown device.
