Samsung Galaxy S4 battery swollen

My wife owns a Samsung Galaxy S4. The S4's battery wasn't holding a charge for more than an hour, so I ordered an original Samsung replacement online. I did check the new battery out for authenticity before putting it into my wife's phone. When I removed the old battery I immediately noticed that it was thicker than the new one. After closer examination I realized it was swollen. I'm not sure if something catastrophic would happen if my wife continued to use the phone with the swollen battery in it, but I'm glad we replaced it when we did.

You can see that the battery doesn't lay flat on the table as it should.

I wouldn't put it in the phone. I'd contact the seller you bought it from and exchange it.

That picture is of the original battery that came with the phone (bought two years ago). It wasn't holding a charge and it was swollen, so I replaced it with an original Samsung battery.

This exact thing happened to me with my S4 about a year and a half ago. The battery life slowly started getting worse, and then what seemed like overnight, I woke up and the phone was bloated the only thing keeping the back from popping off was the Tech21 case I had on it.

After opening it up I discovered a severely swollen battery. When placed next to a brand new factory fresh battery there was no comparison - I was shocked that it didn't explode.

To be honest, the way the phone had bent due to the swelling, I'm surprised the screen didn't fracture...to this day, the screen is still warped slightly.

New battery was replaced for FREE within 7 days however..so kudos to Samsung support on that..but yeah, scary shit!

Ah, when I originally read it, it sounded like the new battery you bought had a bulge.
