Windows Udate stopped

Windows update stopped updating at, Windows Update Agent 7.6.7600.256, and no more updates in 4 days.

I'm using Vista, and was installing a 500g HD, from the orginal 80g, so I was going for a complete install from format and I got about half of the necessary updates from Microsoft, and then the updates just stopped coming.

I replaced the HD now to prepare for windows 7 or 8 or higher next year.

I know there are 150 or so updates to go but the updates stopping midstream.

Any ideas?

It's not even worth installing vista at this point since support ends in april of next year. Just install 10. Windows 7 has issues with updates as well.

John, I'm time rich and cash poor right now. I'm looking to upgrade within six months but after Obama Care changed my health premiums from $20 a month to $320 a month, Upgrading is not an option because every dollar and coupons are keeping us alive.

reinstalling Vista is my only option on my wife's PC and shes is already on my back. I thought two days would have it back up but now it's 4 days since her PC was operational.

Are you running SP2? If not, upgrade to that first and then try running updates.

SP2 was installed on 12-05 and 4 other updates followed, but the last update is Windows Update Agent. I thought the Windows Update Agent would have picked up the rest of the needed updates, since the name is Update Agent.

I'm thinking about removing the Agent update and click Update again after a restart to see if it might be a bad update agent program.

You thought wrong, thats not the idea behind the update agent. Update agent is already there in the update process but it wanted to download the latest version. Doesn't mean that it supposed to help download balance of updates.

This explains what it is. Update agent is required to download updates.

I would probably do a system restore back to before the last updates were installed and try doing them again or do them a few at a time.

I can give that a try, any ideas that may move me along in this the last Vista reinstall will be helpful.

Any other ideas to try tomorrow if this one fails tonight?

All I can tell you is that there are update issues with Vista and 7 since they are so old now. The workaround for 7 was to download the update rollup but not sure if vista has the same thing.
