Motherboard Mounted Without Middle Pin

When I first got my case, I watched a completely bs guide about using it which commented that the middle pin intended for holding the motherboard in place is removable. Well, I went ahead to remove it and it just broke off. My motherboard has been mounted in my case without this middle pin for two years now. My question is this: is that middle pin just intended to help you thread the screws, or is it actually necessary to support the motherboard? Should I replace the entire case for that single piece? I'm considering adding a heavier heatsink, but I'm concerned that the mobo may not support the weight well without that middle pin. All 8 screws are properly threaded. It's just missing that middle support pin.

You should be fine, in fact, after 2 years.. I'm certain you're fine.

That middle hole is just there so you can line the board up, but it doesn't support the board - all I'd recommend is to use caution and not put unnecessary pressure right there - you don't want to bend the board too much and don't want the board to make contact with the metal of the chassis. (although, you'd have to deliberately push pretty hard to bend it that much)

If you continue to use caution and just keep this in the back of your mind you'll be totally fine.

is there room for a standoff ? You could always mount it with a proper screw/standoff pair. Otherwise, if it's still working then meh.

If his Corsair case is like my mid tower was, that middle thing isn't even a real standoff, regardless of breaking the piece off, you would pretty much need to solder/weld on a standoff. I don't think its worth that kind of hassle for no real difference.

Ah, I had a AM3+ board with the plastic pin on a 200R, although it was just through one of the standard standoff pin placement holes, so was curious.

It sounds like it's the same. I did actually try to solder the original piece back on, but I dropped it and it fell through the boards of my deck never to be seen again
