Steam Blocked on Network

Hello,

For a while now I can't connect to steam, because it is blocked on the wifi network that I am connected to. Because of financial problems my family decided not to buy broadband, so I am stuck with the free wifi of the shop opposite my house. Unfortunately I can only access websites on chrome and skype. Steam is put into offline mode. I tried several proxies, however they either only unblock filtered websites or don't work at all.

I tried several solutions from youtube and always end up with steam not being able to connect. Through connecting through my phone, initiating a download and disconnecting I found out that the download servers of steam are not blocked, but everything else is.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

(Country: UK, network: Sainsbury's Wifi

They have probably blocked access to steam via the router. If someone is downloading through steam then the rest of the people using the internet will be slow.

They probably only allow TCP 80 and 443 (as well as UDP 53) and may have other gaming category related filter rules.

You could probably try something like AirVPN which has services on those common ports to establish a tunnel outbound.
s I already wrote above I did and none of them worked for steam.
Which specific thing did you try? You listed proxy in the OP but not VPN. Depending on what platform/protocol it was will dictate how it actually encapsulates your traffic.

Are there any free options?
I tried proxifier and vidalia, all it caused me is no websites to load and it was a pain to fix. Otherwise I tried psiphon and some similar vpns, no results

That's really really weird. I've never heard of that happening.
That's why I am using this forum :D
