Making my computer Faster and Smaller

Hi so currently I have a full computer case set and am looking to make it smaller so it is suitable for traveling. I am wondering if I would need to buy new parts for the pc in addition to the case or would I need to start from scratch? My current pc specs are in my signature. I'm hoping to find a much smaller case maybe a micro atx or something like that. Any suggestions is appreciated.

Thank you,
Eric

Going to be somewhat difficult with that full ATX board. Are there any particular dimensions you are looking for?

Not really just want to make it smaller so it doesn't stand out too much for when I move. I was thinking about this case LINK Should I buy a newer smaller board? I'm willing to put like $800 into the upgrade/downsizing. I'm just clueless on how to go about this.

The full specs of my current case are: 23.43" x 9.25" x 23.03"
Which is way too big IMO. I am looking to maybe half the size if possible

What about this:

  1. Case: NZXT S340 Glossy Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Case : $69.99
  2. GPU:MSI GeForce GTX 1070 DirectX 12:$404.99
  3. Motherboard: GIGABYTE G1 Gaming GA-Z170X-Gaming 7 (rev. 1.0) LGA 1151 Intel Z170 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard : $164.99
  4. RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Intel Z170 Platform / Intel X99 : (Included with motherboard purchase) $0.00
  5. PSU: CORSAIR CX series CX750 750W 80 PLUS BRONZE Haswell Ready ATX12V & EPS12V Power Supply : Will use from previous build $0.00
  6. CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) $0.00 will use from last build
  7. HDD: will use 2Tb hard drive I have
Total: $640.00

Would that work? or would I have to buy another processor.

that would cost a lot more?
m itx z77 motherboard is expensive.
so the sensible way will be upgrade cpu and motherboard at same time, this will cost extra $400?
Depends. I wouldn't buy a new Z77 board in 2017 anyways. Look for good deals on Ebay for a Z77 mobo in ITX form. Current market prices suggest anything from 150-200 for one. It's not cheap, but it's still considerably cheaper than buying a new rig.

Granted, it depends on what he really needs but a m-ATX case and mobo combo isn't that small. ITX form factor is definitely something he should be looking into if size is the main concern.

After having 2 mitx built in my family, i find it quite expensive to fix if motherboard got broken
In future if i going to build something small, i probably go for matx with something like antec p50

Cube cases are definitely a smaller footprint than typical m-ATX cases. Again, it depends if the OP needs to go smaller than that. I'm simply giving him options to consider when it comes to size.

Is there any middle ground between a mid atx and a cube case? I don't really want to buy a new motherboard etc unless I have to. Does anyone know someone who travels with a desktop? If so what would they recommend?

Thanks,
Eric

Well if all you want to do is buy a smaller case for your full-size ATX board, you're kinda limited in choices.

You can check this out. It's not as tall, but it's wider. Still a smaller footprint than your typical midtower case though. Not necessarily as small as m-ATX cases, but then again, if you're not interested in changing motherboards, that's not really an option.

I think that case will work, many people recommended getting an ssd with the case as it has no fans or any airflow flowing to the hdd cases and apparently kills them. Other than that everything on it looked great. So with that, I would get a gtx 1070, 8 gb's of ram and a 250gb ssd. Is there anything else I should get? Is a new processor or motherboard needed?

16GB's of RAM might be worth it if you can squeeze it in your budget. Can always add it later but if you can do it now I would.
