How many ram sticks if you have four slots?

If my motherboard has 4 slots, how should I configure 16GB of RAM @ 2400mhz?

4 x 4GB or 2 x 8GB? And why?

G.Skill Ripjaws V is the desired RAM stick.

What platform?

I'd just get 2x8G. More room to upgrade, slightly less stress on the memory controller. Usually systems struggle more with ram overclocking with four sticks.

Here's the 'officially supported' RAM configurations for that:

• Dual-Rank w/ 4 DIMM: Up to 1866 MHz

• Dual-Rank w/ 2 DIMM: Up to 2400 MHz

• Single-Rank w/ 4 DIMM: Up to 2133 MHz

• Single-Rank w/ 2 DIMM: Up to 2667 MHz

At 4 DIMMs your speeds diminish significantly.
