Cannot boot win xp.
Win Xp,
Plenty of ram and 1tb SATA Segate hard drive w/plenty of space.
Dell Desktop.
Had computer operating fine 3 nights ago and was gonna call it "quits" for the night and hit selection for shutdown....Left room and came back 3 min later and found computer computer mouse still "lit up" so, turned on monitor and found an error message (do not recall)....Being aggravated, I did a hard shut down by holding power button in till computer went off.
Next day, had a blue screen and a message saying something about registry or hive damaged or not writable or similar and said was "dumping memory".....I cannot get it to go into safe mode as it still reverts to the above....
I have a number of discs for recovery, i.e Trinity, Ultimate Boot Disk, Hirens, etc and am able to access the files using same on the drive to retrieve important info....I have attempted to boot into the Win XP disc and it gets to a part that asks me for a password and there is NONE and so, from what i read on the net, I hit "enter", and it simply brings me back to a "C" prompt....
How do i get past this to get into a restore point as i believe the error deals with the initial booting of the hd?.....
I have the hd hooked to a different Dell desktop and am accessing the drive as above...I am current waiting for a large ext hd (which I should have had in the first place!). Some of what is on the recovery discs i have mentioned I don't fully understand and therefore have not attempted.
