so I have with me 2 desktop computers that broke in the past. I want to transfer the files from those 2 computers to my dad’s computer, so that when I send those broken computers to the computer shop to see if they can be fixed, that I can be sure my files can’t be stolen and so that my personal information won’t get stolen. What is the best method to do this? Those broken computers were very cheap. One used a pentium D processor, and the other used an i-5 processor and costed around $200, and was refurbished. Is it even worth it to spend money to fix those broken computers?

All depends on whats wrong with them. The Pentium D one is so old at this point, if its more then 50 bucks its not worth it. As far as copying your files you would need something like this to transfer files to another machine.

You would attach old drive to the adapter and plug the usb port into the machine you want to transfer files to. Also you will most likely need to transfer ownership to the files/folders that have your data in it.
What do you mean by transfer ownership to the files/folders that have my data in it? Also, if i use the method you just told me to use to transfer my files, does it mean I should be 100% confident my files can’t be accessed by the computer repair shop worker, like is there any way he could still get my files even after I’ve transferred them to my dad’s computer? Also, when I use the method you told me to do to transfer my files to my dad’s computer, what is a good way to know I’ve transferred everything important? I think I may have typed my social security number on a word pad files I could check it if I were to forget it. There could be other important files.
Only you know where you have saved your files. Normally all user files are stored in the user folder under documents, pictures, music, downloads, etc. You can't access a users folder on a different hard drive from a different computer that the drive is used in.

Even though you move files from your drive to another driver there is always a chance they can recover something, especially if you just delete something. Deleted files can be recovered if they aren't overwritten by other data.
