Can the non K version of cpu be overclocked

At one point there were some motherboards with features that could OC non-K CPUs but they got backhanded by Intel.

You'd need the unlockable K series in order to raise the multiplier and overclock.

You're thinking of Asrock. Asrock did that back with the Z170 I believe when they found a way to overclocked the base clock instead of the locked multiplier (i.e. the X58 and older days.) via a BIOS update.
