hi all,

I’d like to upgrade my ram
My board is B85–HD3

Currently I have G Skill 8gb ddr3
8-8-8-24 timing

I’d like to get 16gb total.

Any advice on what to get?

Thanks!

Lol wut. 32GB of RAM on a 4+ year old desktop? 16GB is more than enough on even brand new systems for regular usage and gaming.
Oh jeeze, they are like 50$ a piece, Plus you play games like the extremely un-optimized ARK, you'll need it.
I'd be on your side if it was 140$ a stick but ram is so damn cheap now, got 4 slots? Fill em.
Not to mention you dont know if the guy uses programs like realflow, which requires a ton of ram, or if he is like my wife and has 400 internet tabs open at once.

Price is irrelevant. If you don't use the RAM, you might as well light the 50 bucks on fire.

People frequently over estimate how much ram they need. They think more is inherently faster but 16GB vs 32gb is totally pointless when you're only using 10gb.

Advise based on usage, not as a just in case without knowing first. That's all I'm saying.

I get that and never said it makes the computer faster, like i said on games like ark, which only recommends 8gb of ram, i find commonly uses 16gb because its un-optimized and has quite a few memory leaks. Not to mention if you love running mods, for instance I have over 200 mods for Fallout 4, you will also wish you had the ram to support it.

Just depends on what he uses it for. ‍♂️

Anyway 2 different opinions, both are there, he can decide :)

You don't know what he does with the computer, so the obvious suggestion is to dump $160 into it?

The B85–HD3 supports much older 4th gen processors and DDR3.

Suggesting $160 worth of DDR3 is ludicrous.
